The Great Ocean Road

Friday, 12 January 2007

Along the south bit of Australia is the Great Ocean Road. I got to ride a portion of it yesterday on Harley. The views were spectacular and the weather was perfect. The climate in this part of the country is great. The day before yesterday it was boiling hot, but today feels like a cool autumn day. Lorne has heaps of bush trails. I went out on walk and saw a kola bear up in a tree (so cute) and a few kangaroos (bizarre anatomy those ones) . My favorite though is the echidna. It’s sort of like a hedge hog but with a longer snout (http://au-animals.net/). So while I was on my walk, I managed to get lost, of course. I ended up bushwhacking up a very steep hill. I decided to head up toward the top so I could figure out where I was. Once I got up there I was expecting to see either a gorgeous lookout or several eucalyptus trees blocking my view of a gorgeous lookout. Instead I saw a man urinating in the woods. I rather startled him! Whoops. But after that I got to Teddy’s Lookout and it was beautiful. I was told to look out for tiger snakes too. Apparently there are a lot of them around these parts.
