Steep Place

Friday, 13 October 2006

Woah, this country is gorgeous. Me and the wagon have been cruising around. I went all the way up to the tip of the north island, Cape Regina. I camped up there and then went on a day hike. The trails are STEEP! Really STEEP! Apparently, they are not into switchbacks in New Zealand. I only had a day pack on so I was fine. But the backpackers were huffing and puffing and sweating. I passed this one guy in the morning. On my way back I saw him lying down in the middle of the trail. His face was beet red and I was afraid he passed out....so I woke him up. He was fine. For those of you that know Castle Peak in the winter time, imagine hiking up there in snowshoes and a full pack. Right at the top it gets really steep, so you slow your pace down and put one foot in front of the other until you get to the top. Now imagine that when you get to the top you have to do it over and over again 15 times! Rolling hills baby, wooh! The roads here are super fun to drive on. They are windy and steep, surprised?
I made it onto a Fiji website, check it out if you like: http://www.justsouthoftoledo.com
