Slope Point
Monday, 04 December 2006
I went to the south most point on the south island. It was windy and quite chilly due to the Arctic air. The trees were all blown in one direction and were gnarled and hollowed out. Venturing up the scenic highway I spotted a purple wagon with a sign saying Gypsy Art. It was something you’d see out at Burning Man. Animal skulls mounted about, sculptures, lights. The artist was cross between Edward Scissorhands, Dr. Seuss, and Bono. Inside there were crazy knick knacks, noise makers, and doo dads - you pushed that, twirled that, pushed this, twisted that… it was awesome. There were loads of inventions, every inch of that wagon was covered. My favorite was this little whale. When you turned the crank it moved like it was swimming in the water. I liked the little trains and the musical shells too. He had necklaces of the Lorax, a Dr. Seuss character. I got one to remind me of the whole bizarre experience of it all. I also wrote a note in his guest book telling him to come to Burning Man, he’d love it. Then onwards to Dunedin. Very cool city. I stayed at a backpackers called Hogwatz, being the Harry Potter nut that I am. I ate way too much chocolate at the Cadbury factory, and drank way too much beer at the local Irish Pub, (Hayden would be proud). Met a lot of Germans, they are quite the travelers! I studied German for about 5 years in school, so it was nice to have the opportunity to speak it again. Funny how I can speak German better then English once I’ve got a little beer in me. Took a bus up to Christchurch to visit my Wwoofer parents back in the wee town of Oxford. Ate a tasty dinner and I am now back at Victoria’s parents place in Christchurch, whew! New Zealand has been a beautiful country to visit. Even though the weather wasn’t the greatest the kindness of the of the Kiwi people warmed me up. I am thinking about planning a Yoga Retreat at Lynian Park via Tahoe Yoga for next year, any takers??
