Last Day Of Diving at Nananu Island Resort

Sunday, 08 October 2006

Left Nananu Island this morning to go to a dive site that was about an hours boat ride away, called Back Magic Mountain. On the ride over I had to sit on the bow so I wouldn’t get sea-sick. It was a wild ride and the bunch of us got completely soaked on the way over. The diving was INCREDIBLE!!! The best diving I’ve done by far, and I’ve done about 100 dives. Wooh hoo! The visibility was about 90 feet. There were so many fish, so many colors!! Yeah, awesome. We did two dives. The first dive was around this pinnacle. We spiraled around it several times. The second dive was in much more shallow water. We followed along the reef for about 50 minutes. I was amazed. I have never seen so much activity underwater. It is so peaceful down there, so quiet and calm. The little fish were feeding on the reef and hiding out from the current. Occasionally some huge schools of fish would come by and swim inches from my face. So now I am officially an advanced diver. I had to do five specialty dives. They were: wreck, deep, naturalist, boat, and night dives.  Many thanks to Kristin, Rick, Mick, Ariel, Samee and the whole Nananu crew for guiding me on my dives. The wreck dive was fun. It was a bit cloudy down there. We got to go into a sunken cargo ship that was about 100 feet long. It was fun to navigate through the tunnels and storage spaces. I am exhausted because on the boat ride home today I was too cold sitting up on the bow. Each time a wave would splash over me I’d shiver and try to convince myself that it’s not snowing and it’s not that cold, but I gave in. I had to go inside where the driver was, and I got oh so ill. Blah. It’s taken me a good couple of hours to recover but I think I’ll be alright. I leave the island tomorrow. I am looking forward to a HOT shower and a cup of non-instant coffee. I leave for New Zealand on Tuesday.
