K N Y S N A South Africa

Monday, 12 February 2007

Long time no blog.  Sorry about that folks.  I plan on catching ya’ll up to date as best I can.  I arrived in Cape Town South Africa on Feb 1st.  I was welcomed by my dear friends, Saul and Kelly. There are expecting a baby in another 5 months or so.  It seems like only yesterday I was enjoying their beautiful Berkeley wedding even though it has been over a year now.  This country is BREATHTAKING!!  I’ve often wondered if there is a place on Earth that has big wall climbing, sport routes and the ocean right at your fingertips.  Throw in some good food, amazing culture, an active music scene and friendly folks - Cape Town proves to be all that and more. There has been plenty that has happened during the month of Feb but I’ll fill you in on my most recent adventure and then get back to you on the rest.  I went up the Garden Coast (http://www.gardenroute.co.za/knysna/index.htm) with Kirsten (who I know through Kirsten Mackey - climbing/yoga/roommate/back up vocals on my album & good friend - same name different girl) We went to a wedding that was unbelievably elegant.  The weather was rainy but cleared up just in time for a spectacular beach wedding.  Champagne, rose petals, live music. Here’s the menu:

Starters
Freshly hot smoked Norwegian salmon served with a lemon and herb aioli. Rocket, avocado, toasted pine nuts, seeds, olives and parmesan salad with a fig infused balsamic dressing. French breads, olive oil butter, and balsamic.

Main
Rare roast fillet of beef served with a bearnaise sauce and rocket steamed French green beans with pine nut butter, baby carrots with thyme, oven roasted baby potatoes, smothered with whole grain mustard, garlic and rosemary

Dessert
Rich truffle chocolate cake served with blueberries, raspberries, vanilla bean ice cream and white, milk, and dark truffles

Are you drooling yet??  I have been climbing, dancing, teaching yoga, sleeping on a house boat, swimming with penguins, dodging baboons, caught in a rip tide and meeting wonderful people.  Stay tuned, there are more blogs to come!!
