I like this city. And I’m not a city person as most of you know. There is plenty of green around and the weather has been beautiful. The botanical garden park here is the third largest inner city park in the world. (Central park in NY and the gardens in London being the first two) There are loads of other parks around to hike in, bike in, and get lost in. I have a knack for getting lost. Those of you who know that I am not a city person also probably know that if you go out on an adventure with me it will likely take 3 times longer then expected, and might even involve a close to death experience. I remember the first time I really got lost while I was traveling. I was in Athens, Greece. I decided that it would be a good idea to have a run in the middle of the day while there was a heat wave warning on. A word of caution to others who attempt to do this… First off, bring water. Second, try to do it in a country that at least shares the same alphabet. The symbols on the street signs were not registering in my brain at all. Plus, the heat was making my dehydrated body nauseous, and I was having nauseating memories full of frat house parties in college. After a few hours of searching the only person I found that could speak any English was a little boy, maybe 8. We used small words and silly body language to communicate, but he eventually got me and pointed me in the right direction. I’ve gotten lost in New Zealand plenty of times already, on foot, in my car, on a bus. Just today I got lost twice. Once in my car, taking a good hour to go every which way but the right way. Then I got lost walking in the park. The sign said the loop would take two hours and it took me four. I must have missed a turn or two. But, I did find some sick mountain biking trails. So sometimes I stumble upon new sights which are nice. Other times I take the right bus in the wrong direction for way too long and wonder how I could have possibly let myself get into this situation, yet again.  Anyhow, I’m staying at Victoria’s parents house for the time being. Her Dad’s sense of humor keeps a smile on my face and her Mum is as sweet as a Georgia peach in summertime.
