Byron Bay to Brisbane

Saturday, 16 December 2006

It’s hot here man! Wooh! Dripping sweat at times. Byron Bay remindes me a bit of Santa Cruz. You can just get about anything you need here from Spirulina to colon cleansing! I thought I would stay there for a while, but it was just too crowded for me. I met a man from South Africa at the campground I was at, John. He had been to Byron Bay 10 years ago and said is used to be much more mellow. It was nice to sleep in my tent again on the soft grass. However, in the morning I would wake up sweating and then have to peel my sleeping bag off of my skin. There are lots of bugs here too. I was playing some music and I realized that there were cockroaches all over me and my backpack, yuck! In the morning, my shoes were a host to hundred of ants, ugh! And the last night I was camping I went to do my pre-bed toilet stop. There I was on the can doing my business when I felt something watching me. I looked up to see this bright green frog up on the stall wall! Then I looked around and there were more large smooth frogs up on the wall, all facing my direction. So I stood up on the toilet to get a better look at them cause they were kinda cool. On my way out there were some folks sitting around a picnic table drinking. I told them about the frogs and they said, “Oh, Don’t let them spit on you they’re poisonous!” I have to remember that I am in a country there are more poisons creatures found here than anywhere else in the world! I caught a ride to Brisbane with my South African friend and got dropped off at the train depot. Had a good conversation with a local guy.  Once I was in Brisbane a nice transit guy pointed me to the right platform and rode with me to the stop I was looking for, then a guy overheard me talking about Cloud Nine Backpackers and he walked me there.  Some nice lady on the street even yelled out, “Welcome to Australia!” I tell ya, this country is filled with so many nice, friendly people. It’s great. The place I am staying at though is quite a nasty dump! But I still had a good time playing music on the streets till 3AM. People would come up and listen and then ask it they could play a song ... so I’d let them, and they’ll were great musicians. Good times, I’m paying for it today though. Heat + lack of sleep + dehydration = ugh! I’m off to the airport, again.  I’m heading up to Cains.
