- Fear or Fool? - Fact or Myth? -
Saturday, 27 January 2007
I know I haven’t been doing the best job at keeping my blog updated… but I have been meeting great people, seeing incredible sights and experiencing heaps (as they say here). My highlights over the past few weeks have been:
Walking along the cliffs at Bell’s Beach in Torquey
Watching a tennis match in Melbourne at the Australian Open
Riding a bike along the St. Kilda shore in Melbourne
Working at the Lorne Golf Club
Waking up to the sounds of power drills, hammers and the hilarious chatter of Dino and Mattie
Falling asleep to the sounds of the ocean waves
Listening the the crazy bird calls in the twilight hour
Walking the Lorne Beach from the start of town past the pier
Hiking through the bush in the Eucalyptus trees
Doing my yoga practice in front of the beach on the flat rock slabs
Staring at the stars listening to the cackle of the AM radio
Before I came to OZ I was literally frightened. Spiders, snakes, sharks, the crazy outback, wild kangaroos!
On several occasions people mentioned to me that no one goes in the ocean. There are jelly fish and sharks and crocodiles! There are spiders that hide underneath toilet seats, there are rabid koala bears! Now I don’t know if I’ve just been lucky, but I haven’t come across any of that. No spiders or snakes, no dangerous sharks or punching kangaroos.... there was only one beach I didn’t go into because of the stingers. Otherwise, everything has been fine. (Now would be a good time to mention that on one occasion I did find the remains of a scorpion underneath my right flip flop). This country is awesome. The people are friendly and I love it here. It seems a shame to be moving on, but I have a distinct feeling that I’ll be back soon.
