1962 Ford Futura

Thursday, 04 January 2007

Wow, I thought my ‘72 Volvo was a find, but this Ford is awesome. It’s blue on the outside and has a red and chrome interior. A very sty-lie ride for cruising the beach. The hills around Lorne are very steep. It’s an easy walk into town but it’s a sweaty trip back up. Especially when you have to carry your groceries. Besides, I couldn’t lug my massage table around these hills either. My friend, Simon, was sweet enough to offer his car for massage trade. I just hope I don’t mess it up, I feel like I’m driving a tank! It’s hot here in Lorne, absolutely scorching. I am used to being in the snow right about now. Instead I am dripping sweat and gulping down lemonade. The water in Lorne is quite chilly. I feel like it could actually be the same temperature as Donner Lake at the moment! You are so hot on the beach and then SO cold in the water. I think I’ll get used to it soon enough. I was walking the other night along the beach. As I turned the corner the full moon came into view. It was enormous and bright orange. It was framed perfectly by the suspension bridge over the Erskine River. The reflection in the water was gorgeous. There have only been two other times in my life when I’ve seen a moon like this. The first time was when I was on a fishing boat in Greece on the island of Naxos. The sun set on one side of the boat and the full moon rose up out of the Aegean Sea on the other side. That was a night to remember. Me and my traveling companions went into town with the fisherman and cooked up our fresh octopus and fish. We drank plenty of Amstel Lights and ouzo too. The second time was after a hike called Dragon’s Tooth in Salem, Virginia. It is one of my most favorite hikes in the world. As my sister Dana and I turned the corner out of the parking lot, there was this huge orange moon just sitting up at the top of the hill. We drove right up into it. It was an amazing sight to see.
